Branded Residences: An international trend arrives in Germany

The German daily newspaper Handelsblatt recently interviewed Thomas Zabel, Head of Residential Development Germany, on JLL’s Branded Residences Report. In the "Living in a Porsche" article, Zabel says that the international trend will reach Germany: "We are having concrete talks with potential suppliers in Berlin and Frankfurt.”

Topping-out ceremony for construction phase 3 in the Luisenpark in Berlin-Mitte

Recently we celebrated the topping-out ceremony for construction phase 3 in Luisenpark! More than 80 percent of the apartments have already been sold - only a few apartments are still available. During the celebrations, Carsten Sellschopf, COO for Berlin and Frankfurt at Instone Real Estate, drew attention to the residential significance of the quarter in Berlin-Mitte. The project is one of the last major developments along the Berlin Wall and creates inner-city space for a wide range of people.

"If the brand is no longer popular or involved in scandals, it will lose value."

The Handelsblatt (issue 113/2019) recently interviewed Thomas Zabel, Head of Residential Development Germany, about Branded Residences. He also pointed out the risks of this concept: "If the brand is no longer popular or involved in scandals, it causes a loss of value," he says. One example would be Donald Trump. The value of his luxury apartments fell after his election as president.

Thomas Zabel wrote about the influence of current social trends and their effects in the context of his speech "Mikrowohnen - Sales View" at the Immobilienforum in Berlin in an blog post. Attractive common areas, so-called amenities, such as coworking spaces or fitness rooms - the recipe for success for micro-apartments - fit perfectly with the idea of a "sharing community".

In an interview with Chinese journalists, Thomas Zabel, Head of Residential Development Germany, was interviewed in Shanghai as an expert on the German real estate market. The article appeared on Asian messenger service WeChat with over 1 billion daily users. In the interview Thomas explained the economic outlook in Germany and the price growth of residential real estate in large cities.
